IT Risks

A large number of regulations now impact upon the way you manage your system and increase risks of non-compliance. We are familiar with these and know how to ensure compliance.

Some of the new risks that should be in your risk register?

Copyright breaches?

On 1 January 2005, amendments to the Australian Copyright Act came into effect as a result of the Free Trade Agreement with the USA.  As a result of the amendments, unlicensed software use in businesses is now a criminal offence carrying major penalties and potentially jail terms. Licensing breaches significantly increase your business risks and the potential for detection is high.

Electronic marketing?

Electronic and bulk e-mail methods promised massive communication opportunities, but excessive and offensive use has caused legislation  to control its use. You need to understand the Spam Regulations 2004

We can advise on methods, monitoring and risk management.

e-mail content & web site and URL monitoring? You should be able to monitor what information is being moved or stored on your communication systems, and delete and backup the data as you see fit. You should be able to monitor which web sites users attempt to access and what they view. But, you may not be able to do so if you do not understand your obligations under the Australian Privacy Act and Workplace Surveillance Acts. You may find that you breach regulations.
